I thought the car had to be going at highway speeds to charge the battery. A friend of mine is trying to tell me that the battery will charge if you just start the engine and sit still.
Thanks.Does the car battery charge up with the engine running if the car is sitting still?
as long as the engine is driving the alternator, the battery should be charging. trans gear has absolutely nothing to do with it. the charge light is still off at a stop light right?
if the battery is low it will take a charge now the answer your both kinda right if the battery is good when the car is running the alternator actually besides battery charging it is running ALL the accessories Stereo power whatever you have optioned or the car came with ok so along with a nifty lil gadget the voltage regulator depending on your rpm the volt reg keeps a flow of current to the battery depending on the rpm now of course the faster it goes in theory the alt will increase as rpm does but the volt reg is controlling the flow so through out the driving range the volt reg keeps consistent flow of current flowing regardless of rpm the regulator does this job so if your battery is in good shape at idle it is really not "charging but being maintained by the alternator now if your battery is old and failing then yes the alternator will work harder to maintain that current until it cant keep up the demand and the battery is replaced also when the battery is weak like that it also strains the alternator sometimes ruining it because of the extra demand placed on it or causing v regulator failureDoes the car battery charge up with the engine running if the car is sitting still?
Motion of the car is irrelevant. RPM of the engine is relevant however the only proper way to charge a flat battery is with a charger meant for the purpose.
No, the battery charges as long as the engine moves, not the car, so while your sitting still, as long as the engine is running the car will charge.Does the car battery charge up with the engine running if the car is sitting still?
As soon as you start your car the battery will start charging, or should if everythings working correctly
