So I installed a brand new battery for my corolla '95. I did everything right and even cleaned the terminals so I am pretty sure that I did everything right when I installed it. My car started fine and everything but the thing is the symbol to change a new battery still shows up on my dash, so I don't understand whats wrong?
Could it be the wiring? Or does the dash need to be somehow reseted so it knows that I did put a new battery? How to get rid of car battery symbol in dash?
The battery symbol is indicating that the alternator is not operating. This may be due to a voltage regulator or alternator failure. The system needs to be tested in the car to correctly diagnose the failure.
Wow - I can certainly see how'd you'd make that mistake.
The battery symbol has nothing to do with the condition of the battery. They've used that lamp on some cars for 50 years, but it has always meant the same thing. That symbol is intended to tell you that the charging system (the alternator) has stopped working. A new battery could never never never never never never solve that problem. Amazing, isn't it?
I suppose if the oil light comes on, you'd change the oil, right? If the brake light comes on, you'd get new brakes. It makes sense, but it won't work. That's just not what that means, pure and simple.
P.S. - the idea you could "reset" that lamp is very funny. It's completely a dumb circuit that has no intelligence. It would be like resetting your porch light. How to get rid of car battery symbol in dash?
That symbol does not mean " Change battery". It means there is a discharge condition...as in alternator is not recharging the battery. Have your charging system checked.
It may or may not be the battery.
We have a '95 vehicle as well, when you replace batteries and such a lot of the time you have to take it in to the shop to get it reset.
