My car has a dead battery. I jumped it yesterday but didn't drive it so it was dead this morning again. I borrowed a battery charger from my neighbor but I've never used one before. Do I leave my battery in the car and just put the clips on the terminals? Or do I have to take the battery out? Do I have to take the terminals off the posts first? My battery is ok because it jumped right away, I just left the key on accidentally (duh!!) Thanks for your help. How do I charge my car battery?
Red cable of the charger to the (+) positive post, black cable to the (-) negative post. leacve everything hooked up on the car as is. if the charger has varying rates of charge, pick 12 volts, medium charge, for about 4 hours or so.If the charging rates are listed in amps(2,10,20,)pick a middle one
There's more to this than just hooking up the machine.
You stated you just left the key on so it's probably not
in need of a new battery, unless you ended an old batteries
lifetime by a slow and deadly drain to it ( I doubt it ).
You need to have someone assist you because you really
have no clue what you are doing. Batteries can explode if
you create the wrong condition by hooking it up wrong with
the charger. You need to have the charger on the correct setting as well.
Remember one thing. Your battery was completely dead and chances are you may see some odd things happening with the dashboard lights and pre-programmed radio. If this
happens and it doesn't run right. Get a pro to look it over.
So far it's just a dead battery. Don't make a little thing a big
thing...
Good Luck to you..... Remember ( Get someone who knows how to charge a dead battery) CORRECTLY....How do I charge my car battery?
Your battery might be a goner even if you can jump it. It happened to me before. It wouldn't start and I would jump it successfully and then drive around ok. But everytime I would go to start it, it was dead again. I had to get a new battery.
I would recommend getting your battery tested to make sure its ok. Just to make sure you won't get stranded somewhere.
if your charging it then just put the cables on as is dont take and thing off the terminals and leave the battery in the car and make sure the charger is on 12vHow do I charge my car battery?
If your battery is over 4 years old, you need a new battery and a battery charger won't help a lot if the battery is not holding a charge.
