Can your car battery become run down from repeatedly jump starting other cars?

I live in a cold climate, and lately my boyfriend's work truck won't often start in the mornings. He always turns my car on and hooks it up to his car to jump it. This happens at least 3 - 4 times a week. He then parks my car and leaves it. My question is, can this do any harm to my battery over time with how frequent it is? Or is it no big deal?

Thank you for your help!|||The life of the battery depends on its usage

If you drain the battery with low resistance like radio, parking lights etc. it never affect the life of the battery

But if the battery is used for operating the self starter offen then its life would reduce since high current is required at the time of cranking..|||Its not the battery you should be worried about - the electronics in your car can be harmed by the constant connection to an outside source - there are cases where car electronics - including the ECM - have been done in by jump starts. This is particularly true if he doesn't make the connections properly - which if he's jump starting his truck 3-4 times a week its bound to happen.

What he should consider doing ( AFTER fixing his lame starting situation) is getting an auto jump starter. Black and Decker makes a good one for around 50 bucks that you plug in, charge up, and then bring it to the car - no need to pop another car's hood.

Another option is to get a "porta jump", which is a small rechargeable battery that will recharge from the running vehicle, and you can keep in the glove compartment. It takes longer to jump a car, but it'll still work.

A suggestion - if he's running a heavy viscosity oil (like 10w-40), he should switch to a lighter grade oil - or better yet a 5w-40 synthetic - that will not tax his starter. Heavy weight oil will stop engines from starting in very cold climates|||The answer is yes. If you continually put a huge drain on the system it will eventually take its toll. It could cause the battery and alternator to fail especially in cold climates where a battery is already weakened by temperature.

Tell him to buy a new battery! When he installs it get him to go get a free load test on his alternator at local auto parts store. Then make sure all his connections are clean and tight.

Until then the vehicle that is jump starting the other needs to be allowed to run a while after the jump to replenish the battery. About 10 minutes should do.|||its not a big deal if you always use your car.because when you start your car, then alternator will recharge your battery and that will keep ur battery recharged.and if ur boyfriend always jump start his car using ur car,and u just left ur car un used then ur car wont be able to start because when u dun start ur car then ur battery wont recharge, and it will be weak and wont be able to start.so if dun use ur car also, start the car and just left it for half and hour to let ur alternator recharge ur battery, and if dun want to use ur car for along time, then open the negatif terminal in ur battery, then ur battery wont lose power.|||not really ! that,s what the alternator is for, to keep the battery charged.
