Can anyone explain to me how to use the car battery cables? What to connect with what? In which order? How can I prevent from damaging the car's computer?|||Car that needs the jump should have the key in the off position. hook the positive and Negative cable to good running car. Attach the positive to the battery. Attach the Negative to Good ground on the chassis. do not hook to the Battery. You run the risk of sparks and igniting the battery. then start the other car. there is often times to where you may need to attach the negative to the battery. be sure the key is in the off position. I will normally take a towel or rag and place it over the top of the battery before attaching the cables. This helps if there are sparks.|||red goes on red... black goes on black... (typical jumper cable colors) red is positive , black is negitive... just connect and crank... simple and no damage should occur. oh yea connect to the dead battery 1st and then to the live one your getting the jump from, careful not to let positive and negative touch each other... then you might get a little fireworks|||what you need are a set of jumper cables. you won't damage anything. just remember red is positive so hook that to the plus sign on each cars battery terminal. the black is negative hook that to the minus sign on each cars battery terminal. always connect the black/negative cables first because they are your grounds. you almost never see sparking so don't let anyone scare you. then you turn on the car that works. if the battery has been dead awhile let it set for about 10 minutes just running. then while it is still running start the other car. when you disconnect the cables always disconnect the red/positive cables first. then the black. and don't let them get wet. if you get grease or anything on your cables be sure to clean them off before you put them back. and if you have battery acid on your terminal make a paste out of baking soda and water and clean with a wire brush before jumping. this well help the current flow easier and then it wont corrode your jumper cables, and will keep the battery posts working properly.|||red cable goes in the positive battery terminal, black goes in the negative battery terminal.
You must make sure to connect the alligator clip to the empty battery first, starting with the negative battery terminal (black cable). Connect the other black cable麓s end (alligator clip) to the charged battery.
If not alredy, start the loaded car麓s engine. God help your sould boy.|||With the options turned off on the vehicle running hook pos. to pos. on the battery and neg on the car running to a brace or engine part (ground) and the neg cable attached to the battery of the non running car. This is how you "jump-start a car"|||Red to positive both sides, Black to negative on good battery, black to good engine ground away from battery on dead car.|||There should be instructions with the cables or in your car's manual that tell you how to correctly boost a battery.|||i own a repair shop, and on one car you connect the positive cable to the positive cable on the other car,the negative cable goes to the negative cable, and on one of the cars the negative cable goes on the engine ground, not the battery ground this will prevent computer damage to it,this passes the voltage through it safely and also helps prevent battery blow ups, they do occur once in a while, good luck i hope this help,s.
