Can I put a new car battery on the ground, run cables to a dead battery and jump start a car?

I have the battery, it is pouring out and I need to get the car home. Can I just run cables from the dead battery to the new battery in the back seat and jump it? or do I need a running car? I really don't want to get soaked. it is monsooning in NY.|||"This won't work since this puts the second battery in parallel with the first instead of series like it's supposed to be."

No the_white_knight, your the tard... If you put the 2 batteries in series, you will get 24V. Parallel hookup would give you 12V, which is what your supposed to have.

Yes, you can use a second battery that you carried out to the car to start the car by using jumper cables. This is the exact same thing as using a jumper box!!! If your second battery is halfway healthy, you will be able to start the car.|||Bunch of tards answering lol.

This won't work since this puts the second battery in parallel with the first instead of series like it's supposed to be. Jump start it off of a running car. Let it sit with the other car at about 2k rpm's for a minute or so and then try cranking it. If it doesn't work, wait again for a couple more minutes. The reason for raising the rpm's is that stock alternators in cars only charge above a set rpm.|||wait a min it will charge the old battery but it will drain the new one I am pretty sure! The reason you do it with a running car is because the car is always charging the battery...if the car is not charging the battery it will drain the battery i believe. I could be wrong i mean maybe it has enough power not to do that but i would think it would drain the new battery.|||yes if it stars take rite back out but you shod not put a batter on the lock just take the good batter and put it in your car and drive it home and at home take the old batteouy wy it is runnit will be ok just take your time and let runn with the old one mit be bad or it mite be your alter os good luck i wood help but im in tn. long way letme know.ti be ok i got fate ok|||Yep. You can do that. Let them sit connected for 5 minutes or so before you try starting the dead car if you have the patience.|||Yes you can actually you dont need a started car but dont shock your self that would be terrable|||Why don't you just replace the battery with the new one you have?!

(Disconnect and reconnect ONE cable at a time)!|||I thing this will work..put your new battery and connect cables with your dead battery and try to start the car..|||sure you can do that.|||Get AAA to do it for you.|||no but just put the new battery in the car|||yes
